Helping Canadians see themselves as climate leaders
What can the gift economy teach us about leadership in climate action? How can we strengthen our communities (work, personal, etc.) to help our climate action work take root?
Inspired by Robin Wall Kimmerer’s work including her books Braiding Sweetgrass and The Serviceberry, this conversation will root in the idea of leadership as an act of reciprocity—offering our gifts, receiving from others, and fostering relationships of mutual care.
“Like the maple, leaders are the first to offer their gifts. It reminds the whole community that leadership is rooted not in power and authority, but in service and wisdom.” – Braiding Sweetgrass, p 112
Drawing on the rhythms of spring and the wisdom of land-based traditions, we’ll consider how embracing a gift-based mindset can strengthen our communities and climate efforts. No pre-reading is required; optional readings are available for those who want to get inspired or engage further. Join us for an open dialogue on leadership, generosity, community, and resilience.
