Addressing today’s important leadership challenges

Otto Scharmer is a Senior Lecturer in the MIT Management Sloan School and co-founder of the Presencing Institute where he introduced the concept of “presencing” – learning from the emerging future.

In a fast paced and provocative interview with Forbes15 host Sunnie Groeneveld, Dr Scharmer discusses how leadership roles and practices are evolving to weather moments of disruption. His approaches are highly aligned with ASI’s Transition Leadership competency framework, values and beliefs. We’ve distilled some highlights from his interview here:

Leadership challenges cannot be solved alone.

Across all types of organizations and sectors, leaders need to move from an ego-system mentality to an inclusive eco-system awareness, and hold the space to embrace truly diverse perspectives, generate deep dialogue, and access inclusive solutions.

The whole framework around business has changed.

Leaders set the narrative, and increasingly the winning narrative is mission driven organizations that intentionally make the world a better place.

People are the key to creating tech for good.

Social intention and design are the keys that will evolve digital technology to become creativity and awareness enhancing and enabling.
